Vision & values

Learn more about CAM’s vision, mission and core values.

Who ARE WE

Canine Arthritis Management (CAM) is a veterinary driven initiative set up in 2015 by award winning vet Dr Hannah Capon. Her vision is to provide education and support to canine professionals and caregivers on the early identification and management of arthritis so dogs do not needlessly suffer from the chronic pain associated with the disease, which is a major cause of premature euthanasia.

Our Vision

CAM’s vision is to help dogs lead long, comfortable and happy lives. We want dogs to be listened to and understood, have their pain identified early and managed in a proactive manner. We want to celebrate the special bond between humans and dogs and to enable dogs to have meaningful and pleasurable  connections with the things important to them.

Mission Statement

We are the leading provider in education and support to canine professionals and caregivers in the early identification and multimodal management of osteoarthritis in dogs. We believe that changing canine professionals, caregivers and public perception of how to diagnose and treat pain in animals will lead to improved and extended lives for animals and their caregiver. Our aim is to create a strong team around the dog and a close and trusting relationship between canine professional and caregiver. We believe in supporting the caregiver at all stages of their dog’s lifespan. Through evidence-based practice we produce multimedia resources accessible to all across different platforms.

Our Values

Integrity - we believe in evidence based practice and always follow the best evidence where it is available. In a world of misinformation, CAM is a trusted source of information respected throughout the veterinary profession.

Impartiality - it is important to us that our content is not negatively influenced or compromised by external pressures. Our educational material is trusted to be excellent and without biased influences.

Innovative - we are constantly pushing the boundaries to deliver first class education and resources in new and exciting ways. We work with a team of respected, world renowned advisors to do so.

Impactful - what we do matters to the welfare of dogs and their caregivers. Chronic pain associated with arthritis is a leading cause of elective euthanasia in dogs across the world. We believe this needs to change.

Individuality - we recognise there is no one fit all solution and that dogs and their caregivers live and learn differently. We aim to give people the educational tools and confidence to decipher their own path with the dogs in their care.

Involvement - through our Facebook group Holly’s Army, we offer a supportive community for dog care-givers which promotes peer to peer learning and support through evidence based practice.

CAM EDUCATION AND RESOURCES

CAM provides education and resources through many different formats.

  • Hannah and the CAM team host regular live events on Facebook and YouTube, speaking to experts from around the world on topics ranging from pain management and canine welfare through to surgical options, medications, physiotherapy and arthritis care.
  • The CAM Education Centre has a range of courses aimed at both caregivers and professionals (LINK www.cameducation.co.uk ).
  • CAM offers practice training both in person and virtually across the globe, which can range from a few hours to several days.
  • CAM is also educating the veterinary professionals of the future by offering lectures in universities and colleges across the country and further afield.

CAM has a high profile social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram - there are tens of thousands of followers from all around the world. In addition, Hannah started a Facebook group called Holly’s Army, where caregivers of arthritic dogs are able to get advice and support from others. There is also an equipment page for caregivers to find and review equipment to help their dogs.

CAM is committed to promoting better care of our canine friends and Hannah Capon has won internationally recognised awards for her tireless work in the field of canine arthritis, including the CEVA Vet of the Year award in 2019, and the 2020 Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Impact Award. CAM’s motto is #YourDogMoreYears - by educating caregivers and professionals about arthritis, dogs will live longer, happier and more comfortable lives.
