This three-hour workshop will explore the management of the arthritic dog, looking at these specific areas:
What is arthritis? Why has my dog got it and what can I learn for the future?
How can I recognise arthritis in my dog and what do I do when I suspect it in others?
Getting a diagnosis – stiffness and slowing down does not only come with osteoarthritis, what does this involve?
Chronic Vs Acute pain and chronic pain indicators -why identifying and using them is important to management – introducing the power of placebo!
Initial treatment plans – weight, home considerations, exercise and hobbies – a brief overview of how important the “little things” are.
NSAIDS myth busting!
Supplements – current knowledge.
Additional therapies – what is available, what to try and when, and how do I know if they’re working?
Good days and bad days; the true nature of arthritis – how do I cope with a bad day?
Progression of the disease and how you have to change, remodel and rethink with it – what do I do next?
Calling time; when and how do I know when the right time may be?
Anticipatory Grief; is it hindering me making the right decisions?
Refreshments will be included, along with a goodie bag of CAM products.
