The Big Walk September 2017

Hannah Capon MA Vet MB MRCVS qualified 15 years ago as a first opinion small animal vet.

In 2013 Hannah founded Canine Arthritis Management – CAM. This is an online initiative to inform and support owners of pets suffering from this chronic disease.

On September 9th 2017 Hannah set off on ‘The Big Walk’ to cover 100 miles of the South Downs Way with her fourteen year old collie, Holly. The aim was  to raise £10,000 to help fund awareness of arthritis in dogs through the online platform: Canine Arthritis Management (CAM). #YourDogMoreYears

Hannah’s dog Holly suffers from arthritis and lumbosacral disease and so careful provision was made to ensure all of Holly’s needs were fully met during the walk. This included careful monitoring of Holly and a special cart which was designed to carry her when she was not up for walking or simply needed a rest.

The expedition took them 8 days, finishing in Brighton on September 16th and most nights the pair camped out if the weather allowed! Holly was a total star throughout the week long walk and on the final day stormed home with Hannah is hot pursuit!

Hannah and Holly were joined along the way by friends, family and supported by member’s of CAM’s facebook community, who very generously donated via the Just Giving page. To date ‘The Big Walk’ has raised in excess of £3,500.

Hannah and Holly would like to extend their thanks to everyone who helped, supported and cheered them along the way. On finishing Hannah said “It has been the most amazing experience and I would do it again a million times over… Holly has been the best dog anyone could ever hope for”.

Hannah hopes her efforts will make a big difference to lives of dogs and their owners by raising awareness of chronic pain and canine arthritis. #thebigwalk #notslowingdown
